A place like Edmonds Marsh can be really hard to sketch because of the enormous amount of detail! I study the scene for a while, identifying layers of SIMPLE SHAPES. After sketching the simple shapes, I add color, starting with the distance in cooler colors, coming forward with warmer, more saturated colors. I try my best to resist the urge to add detail until the last minute - its amazing how little detail you need to get the idea across!
